Small & Medium Enterprises Development Program (SMEDP) funded by GTZ

SMEDP, a 9.97 million EURO program, aimed to improve competitiveness of private small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in Ho Chi Minh, Daklak, Quang Nam, Hung Yen, An Giang and Hanoi, Vietnam. The Program was co-funded by GIZ and MPI. The program covered four main components: (i) SME Policy/Enabling Environment; (ii) Local Economic Development; (iii) Competitiveness of Selected Sub-sectors/Value Chains; and (iv) Material Testing & Advanced Technical Services. The Direct implementation partners were Agency for SME Development under MPI, VCCI, VN Academy of Science and Technology, as well as six Provincial/City People Committees and their Department of Planning & Investment (DPI). SMEDP worked with capacity development institutes, including Central Institute for Economic Management (CIEM), VN Cooperative Alliance, Business Promotion Service Center (BPSC), Organizational Capacity Development (OCD), and Vietnam Productivity Center (VNC) to build capacity for local public partners and more than 1,800 SMEs to improve their performance. One of the remarkable achievements that I contributed to was that the Quang Nam Rattan & Bamboo Association led by Nam Phuoc Rattan & Bamboo Company had won the EURO 2.5 million worth contract to supply rattan & bamboo products to the international clients, thanked to the support of the SMEDP.
