Climate Change/ Resilience

I was one of the first 21 TOT who were trained on Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation (CC) funded by the Finland Embassy in Vietnam in 2010. After the TOT, together with other TOT colleagues, I provided CC training courses for NGO staff in Thua Thien Hue, Binh Dinh and Ca Mau provinces. I also worked with MONRE of Vietnam to support for implementation of the Nationally Appropriate Mitigation Actions (NAMA) and the National Climate Change Strategy (NCCS) under the GMS-CEP administered by ADB. As we all know that there are different risks to our natural resources/ ecosystem services, starting from poverty, infrastructure development, dysfunctional governance due to high economic development pressures and climate change risks. We also well noted that there is no single action to help address these complex risks. Therefore, I proposed a climate resilient strategy model (see Diagram) to manage complexity of various risks to natural resources/ ecosystem services. This model shows that with appropriate regulating and good governance mechanisms in place, the Climate Resilient Strategies can facilitate better management of the identified risks. Thanks to appropriate mechanisms, natural resources will be sustainably exploited and provide job opportunities for millions of peoples, as well as encourage natural resource and ecosystem service users to reinvest in enhancing natural resources. As a result, these best practices would lead to improved well-being and a healthier environment.
